Several small treatment points distribute material more effectively than one deep hole near the trunk. Extend the application across open soil beneath and beyond the canopy where active fine roots can use moisture and nutrients.
Water, Mulch, and Maintain
Water after application and continue the care schedule appropriate for the tree species, site, and season. Biochar helps soil retain moisture, but newly planted and established trees still depend on rainfall and irrigation during dry periods.
Cover open soil with mulch while leaving the trunk flare clear. Compost and mulch are renewed as they break down. Biochar remains in the soil for many years and needs more application mainly when the treated root area expands.
